Scenario... (and this happened to me this week), speaking with a VW guru at a Volkswagen parts department and he needed the VIN of my car to look up a part. Well, the car is at home in my garage and I'm 20 miles away at work. I want to order the part today!

So, how do I figure out my VIN. Well, you take the color of the car and assign it a numberical value based on the number of letters in the word (i.e. RED = 3), multiply it by the year of the car, subtract the number of cylinders, and add 4. Bam! There you go, a bunch of random useless numbers. Or....

Look up your registered cars using your drivers license number. I assume the same is available for other states that you register your cars.

Steve
